Call for Entries: 2019 SCW Photo Contest

  • 3 minute read

Calling all outdoor photographers! Got a fantastic nature photo that you’ve been holding on to? Or maybe you’ve taken some photos during your outdoor adventures this past holiday season?

Why not enter the South Carolina Wildlife/ Hampton Wildlife Fund photography contest? Winning entries will receive cash prizes and a debut in the “wildly” popular South Carolina Wildlife magazine – celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2019! The photos below are past entries from each category: Birds, Recreation, Wildlife and Scenic.

Bird category, 2018 Best in Show winner

The wonderful thing about a nature photo contest is that, although not everyone gets to be the winner, no one really loses. Just by participating, you can head outdoors to experience and soak in the wonder of the natural world. Whether you decide to enter a photograph or not — take time to enjoy the wildlife and wild places right outside your door!

The deadline for the South Carolina Wildlife/Hampton Wildlife Fund Photo Contest is 5:00 p.m. on February 15, 2019.

2018 Entries

Photo contest entries have regularly been published in South Carolina Wildlife magazine whether they place in the contest or not. Take a look at some of last year’s entries below from each different category, a few of which were published in our most recent issues. Click through them to find out what was published!

Who can enter? What are the requirements?

Photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to enter a total of two images in the contest. Resolution/size of your image file must be a minimum of 2 megabytes (MB). Prints will not be accepted; only digital images. All entries must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 15, 2019. Images not meeting these basic requirements will be ineligible for prizes. Of course, all photos must be shot in South Carolina. They may be either landscape or portrait orientation. File format should be .jpg or .JPEG.

Winning photographers will be notified by email after judging is complete (no later than March 15, 2019). Winning photographs will be posted on our website (www.scwildlife.com) after March 15, 2019.

The top one hundred photos (including the winning photos in each category) will be chosen by our panel of judges. Winning images will be printed and mounted by South Carolina Wildlife magazine and displayed at the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic held March 22-24, 2019, at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia. The remaining photos from the Top 100 will be displayed in a digital gallery near the display.

All photographs entered into the contest are eligible to appear in the pages of South Carolina Wildlife magazine, and winning entries will be recognized in a photography contest special edition of the magazine during 2019.

Note:

Entries exhibiting excessive use of content manipulation such as composite images or other image manipulations including, but not limited to, colorizing or use of digital effects, may be disqualified. However, some HDR images may be considered at the discretion of the judges. Images must be tasteful and appropriate for public and family viewing. At the sole discretion of the contest committee, images may be disqualified if the entry does not meet standards.
