Jewels in the Crown

  • 2 minute read

Let’s tour . . .

four of the most diverse, vast and spectacular natural areas in South Carolina!

The SCDNR’s Wildlife Management Area and Heritage Trust programs will be spotlighted in a spectacular commemorative art tour and essay created by John E. Davis for the May-June 2020 edition of South Carolina Wildlife magazine. This will be a keepsake edition to treasure and share with family and friends!

The public lands featured in this art collection are managed and protected by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. “Each is a jewel in the crown of an incredibly successful program to preserve and protect South Carolina’s natural wealth for present and future generations,” says Davis.

The May-June edition of South Carolina Wildlife magazine will feature John E. Davis’ art and commemorative essay, Jewels in the Crown. Subscribe before May 1, 2020, to receive your copy.

Join the SCDNR, South Carolina Wildlife magazine staff and artist John E. Davis in celebrating the SCDNR’s Wildlife Management Area and Heritage Trust programs — almost eight decades of conservation success — through this commemorative edition of SCW magazine!

John E. Davis’ “Jewels in the Crown” art collection will soon be on display at the South Carolina State Library. Stay tuned for details!

Davis’ paintings begin with careful observation, honed by a keen understanding of the outdoor world and the animals that inhabit it. His childhood interest in the natural world and art was enhanced by 22 years as editor of South Carolina Wildlife magazine where he worked with fellow natural resource professionals and many of our nation’s foremost wildlife artists. His continuing intensive study of painting techniques, design and the effects of light and shadow allow him to express his passion for a natural world that was once familiar to all. Davis’ artwork may be viewed at jedavisfineart.com.
